Up to 400 self build plots could be made available in the East London area after two locations were earmarked for development.
The Greater London Authority (GLA) identified the sites as suitable for custom builders to build their own home. The authority hopes to stimulate growth of the self build market and encourage other Outer London boroughs to do the same.
The two locations are at Beam Park, a 29-acre former industrial site close to South Dagenham/Hornchurch and Barking Riverside, a 443-acre area of reclaimed land in the Thames Gateway.
